Business Editors

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2003

Stonesoft and Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) today announced Monique Shivanandan, vice president of IT Strategy, Security and Business Continuity with BellSouth Corporation, the winner of the 2003 Information Security Executive of the Year in Georgia(TM) Award.

Recognized for her pioneering contributions to the information security industry in Georgia, Shivanandan was honored at the first annual Information Security Executive of the Year in Georgia award ceremony in the Egyptian Ballroom at the Fox Theatre on March 19, 2003.

During the award ceremony, Richard Warner, CEO and principal of What's Up Interactive, served as master of ceremonies and special presenter Stanton S. Gatewood, chief information security officer for the University of Georgia, introduced keynote speaker Richard H.L. Marshall, principal deputy director of the Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office (CIAO), who discussed the emerging role of security executives in today's environment.

Shivanandan began her BellSouth tenure with responsibility for the planning and delivery of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) functionality through a partnership staff of over 800 technologists across BellSouth's domestic operations. Three years later, in June 2002, Shivanandan was asked to lead BellSouth's security agenda. In this role, she had lead a cross-organizational leadership team in developing plans, processes, and procedures to better protect our nation's critical communications infrastructure, the customers BellSouth supports and 77,000 employees. Together with her colleagues, Monique works to proactively minimize the risk of malicious attack against BellSouth critical assets, reduce the impact of an attack on our business systems and support both Homeland Security and the National Critical Infrastructure Protection Program.

"This award brings together the most impressive group of information security executives across Georgia. As pioneers of this industry, they are faced with unique challenges and have demonstrated outstanding success in carrying out their mission critical responsibilities," said Juha Harkonen, CEO with Stonesoft, Inc. "We are honored to recognize Monique for her role in ensuring the strategic growth and direction of BellSouth. Through her innovation approach to information security, she is truly a driving force in taking BellSouth as well as the business and technology community to the next level."

"The vastness and complexity of BellSouth's network represents a significant challenge for any information security executive and Shivanandan has proven that she is more than up to the task," said Tim McCormick, vice president of Marketing for Internet Security Systems. "With such a large customer and employee base, including much of the nation's critical communications infrastructure, the security strategy and practices Shivanandan has implemented will minimize the risk and impact of malicious online attacks. We are pleased to present this award to Shivanandan in recognition of her accomplishments in the realm of information security."
