Stone & Webster selected to assess 20 CUNY buildings.

Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation has been awarded a contract from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York to perform building condition assessments for Brooklyn College, City College of New York, and The College of Staten Island.

The project involves detailed condition assessments of 20 campus buildings encompassing 1.6 million square feet of space in various types of facilities. In addition, Stone & Webster will be responsible for the development of a 30-year plan for capital expenditures for the rehabilitation of the buildings, including all mechanical, electrical, life safety, structural and architectural systems. Compliance with the latest building codes, environmental regulations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be addressed.

The project was initiated with a detailed search for available documentation related to the buildings. Documents include original design drawings, maintenance records, test reports for safety systems, records of major renovations, and equipment manufacturers data. An on-site inspection of the building/systems identified short term deficiencies and long term projected equipment replacements. The findings were prioritized based upon their relative impact on safety and operations of the facilities. Cost estimates were prepared for the implementation of the identified-remedial measures for use in developing the 30-year capital expenditures plan.

Stone & Webster also used an interactive data base which contains detailed information related' to building characteristics, system descriptions, deficiencies, long term replacements, capital costs and schedule of expenditures. The data base can be utilized to manage the implementation of ongoing maintenance programs and to project future funding needs.
