Stock Exchange booms.

The Cayman Islands Stock Exchange has a market capitalization of about US$113 billion with 1,263 listed issues, reports AP (March 7, 2007). The growing exchange, opened in 1997, has become a leading market for offshore mutual funds and Eurobonds, which are bonds traded outside the regulations of a single country. Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson told House legislators that since the islands' exchange continued to be self-supporting and profitable it required no government funding. The islands, with about 45,000 inhabitants, are one of the world's largest banking centers.
