Still Little Fingers were on the pulse..

U2's Bono recently quoted legendary Northern Irish punks Stiff Little Fingers on hit US chatshow Jimmy Kimmel Live!

On a night off from their 30th anniversary Joshua Tree tour in the USlast May, the band were guests on the show and Kimmel asked the Dublin rockers about how the Troubles had effected them.

Bono (left) said: "Jake Burns, the singer of the incredible band called Stiff Little Fingers, he said that the cure to the Troubles in Northern Ireland 'was a thousand punk bands formed."

Stiff Little Fingers formed in Belfast in 1977, at the height of the Troubles.

Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al - Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement.

They wrote initially about their own war-torn lives in songs like Suspect Device and Wasted Life.

In November of '77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night.

In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK top 20 album charts on an independent label with their debut but Inflammable Material.

In 1983 the band decided to call it a day but reformed again in 1977. The current incarnation of SLF, which still tours includes Burns, bassist Ali McMordie, guitarist Ian McCallum and drummer Steve Grantley To celebrate their 40th Anniversary, the band play Dublin's Academy tonight, tickets [euro]25 available at Ticketmaster.

The Dublin show serves as a warm-up for their largest ever Belfast headline show at Custom House Square tomorrow night.

Not to be missed for SLF superfans, the Belfast show will be a special one and boasts an all-star lineup of special guests and friends including The Stranglers, The Ruts DC, The Outcasts and Terri Hooley.
