Stevens Point cops Blue Chip award.

Stevens Point Brewery, in Stevens Point, WI, was recently named a "Wisconsin Blue Chip Enterprise" for 1992 by The Blue Chip Enterprise Initiative, which is sponsored by Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Nation's Business magazine.

Stevens Point and three other Wisconsin small businesses were joined by nearly 200 Blue Chip Enterprises from every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. According to the award's organizers, honorees were those businesses that "demonstrated creative uses of resources and innovation to meet challenges and emerge stronger."

Specifically, Stevens Point was cited for "the progressive ways in which it was able to improve employee morale, change its image and survive when the beer industry has grown increasingly competitive," a Stevens Point official said.
