Assistant Public Defender Steven Malone is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and the Florida State University College of Law. He began his career in private practice, primarily representing employees in civil rights and employment discrimination litigation. He worked for The Florida Bar's Volunteer Lawyers' Resource Center, assisting private firms in their pro bono representation of death row inmates, and with the Office of the Capital Collateral Representative. Since 1986 he has been an Assistant Public Defender in West Palm Beach in the capital and felony trial divisions, and is presently assigned to the appellate division. His wife, Lisa, is also an attorney, and he has four children: Matthew (17), Natalie (11), Miles (7) and Hillary (1). Since 1996, he has volunteered at Cafe Joshua, which is a nonprofit program designed to restore dignity and self-esteem to the homeless. Malone started a legal panel comprised of about 25 attorneys who provide free legal services to the homeless and recen tly homeless guests of the Cafe. Malone meets with Cafe guests at least once a to assist with their problems or refer them to another attorney who can.
