Steve car was too crammed.

Byline: HELEN COOK

FORMER Olympic athlete Steve Cram was banned from driving yesterday for cramming too many people into his car.

Magistrates ignored the love cheat's plea that it would cause havoc in his tangled private life.

When stopped by police last July, Cram had five passengers in his Mercedes sports car - one in front and one lying across the others in the back.

The Olympic silver medallist, who left wife Karen, 42, last year and moved in with Scots runner Alison Curbishley, 26, said: "The relationship I have with my wife is such she would not take kindly to my partner taking me to pick up my kids."

That, he claimed, would make it harder to visit Josie, 15, and Marcus, 12.

Cram, 43, from Northumberland said he also needed to drive for work-related reasons, but he would not lose any of his BBC work.

Cram, who admitted carrying the excess passengers, was banned for six months and also fined pounds 60.
