Byline: CATHERINE VONLEDEBUR

WARWICKSHIRE'S new touring theatre company Majikal Theatre is recreating a live 1940s-style radio play on stage - bringing three early Hitchcock films to life.

Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry features adaptations of The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps. Five actors will be playing dozens of characters, producing live sound effects and musical underscoring.

Artistic director Mike Connell said: "Imagine stepping back in time to the WBFR Radio studios and experiencing the thrill of watching actors perform a radio broadcast live in the studio.

"Not only do I get to bring such an incredible production to my home county, but we have been contacted directly by the playwright Joe Landry, who confirmed that we would be the European debut."

Vintage Hitchcock will be performed in village halls and small venues across Coventry, Warwickshire and Birmingham from April 26 to May 4. And the suspense-filled triple bill feature will even include vintage commercials.

Alfred Hitchcock is best known for his later work including North by Northwest, Psycho, and The Birds. Playwright Joe Landry's play looks at Hitchcock's work before he came to America.

Majikal Theatre was formed over a glass of wine by a group of good friends. Mike Connell dreamed of bringing productions into intimate venue across the villages of Warwickshire and the West Midlands.
