Stella McCartney for GapKids and babyGap spring/summer 2010.
Launching in stores from the beginning of April 2010, Stella's second collection captures the essence of a perfect childhood summer wardrobe. Paired-down essentials are set against playful, distinctive pieces to create an eclectic design mix that allows kids to create their own unique style statement.
The delicate 'Stella' zig-zag hemmed dress in embroidered cotton sets the tone, evoking the romance of simple summer dressing. Softly crumpled linens and cottons in signature muted hues are the foundations for timeless styles for all ages. For girls, the 'Lily' eyelet drop-waist dress and soft-pink 'Anna' ruffle blouse. For boys, a striped voile collar-less shirt or grey roll-up short. For babies, a grey linen collared romper suit or cotton smocked blouse with matching bloomer. Crochet details compliment the neutral palette, as a cuff on a linen tunic top for babies, and as a girl's cotton/cashmere 'Mercy' shift dress with butterfly design.
Classic summer stripes and indigo shades reiterate a sense of modern nostalgia. For babies, the 'Moses' merino onesie comes in navy and cream sailor stripe whilst the girls 'Bea' navy cotton ruffle blouse is effortless, worn with a cream skinny jean. For toddler boys, the 'Beckett', a summer jacket in mix-matched blue and white stripes and table-cloth check. An oversized anchor motif offers a signature Stella touch, printed on sweaters for babies and boys and on a girl's knitted cotton sleeveless dress.
Bright block colours and pop prints provide contrast, creating playful summer moments. Bright ginger and rainforest green infuse kicks of colour in a boy's slim jean and girl's 'Olivia' hooded beach cover-up. Tropical fish decorate the boys 'Elliot' swim trunks and the girls 'Bailey' cotton sundress. A glow in the dark cloud print becomes the basis of a toddler boys pyjama set and Stella's iconic horse print is placed on a girl's envelope tee.
Favourites from Stella's debut Gap collection are updated in bold shades, including the unisex pacamac, superhero 'Fitz' tee and hi-top trainer.
Stella's recognisable aesthetic is found in the essential denim and organic jersey separates that complete the collection. The 'Lula' girls denim shirt and boys denim roll-up short are wear-with-all styles, understated and versatile, combined with key accessories like a ribbon espadrille or boys denim 'Arthur' pump, they offer the perfect capsule wardrobe for kids to dress up as themselves.
Available in store from the beginning of April, in select GapKids and babyGap stores in the United States, Canada, UK, France, Ireland and Japan. In addition the collection will be available in selected stores in Russia, Turkey, Greece, Asia and the Middle East. The collection will also be available online from the beginning of April in the US.
Stella McCartney comments, "For this second collection I wanted to design pieces that ensure your child looks like an individual with their own style statement, a mixture of simple minimal styles and more detailed pieces to create a summer wardrobe for all your kids' needs." 2010 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
