Stay away from rallies in US, Emiratis warned.

Summary: UAE Embassy in Washington issues special alert for its citizens in United States

The UAE Embassy in Washington has issued a special alert for its citizens in the US "to stay away from any ongoing or planned demonstrations and protests in cities around the US, for their own safety."

"Please be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid crowded places when possible. Exercise particular caution during large festivals or events, be alert and stay safe," the advisory read.

All Emiratis are encouraged to contact the embassy's number should they need assistance: +1 (202) 431-5530.

The advisory comes days after Emiratis were urged, as a precautionary measure, not to wear their national dress when travelling abroad.

The previous warning came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation following an incident where Ahmed Al Menhali, an Emirati businessman, was forcibly detained by armed US police on suspicion by a hotel employee in Ohio that he had pledged allegiance to Daesh.
