AaA seminar on " Statistical Information Systems on Enterprises: International and Maghreb Experiences " was held on Monday in Tunis, by the National Statistics Institute (NSI). <p>Several representatives from European and international statistical institutions including the Statistical Office of the European Commission (EUROSTAT), the Consortium of Italian Institutes, the Centre of Studies and Training (FORMEZ), the Portuguese Statistical Institute, Maghreb Statistical Institutes and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)) took part in this seminar which is part of the programme of support to the implementation of the association agreement with the European Union.

In his address, National Statistics Council President Mohamed Daoues underlined that the promotion of statistical information systems on enterprises in Tunisia should take into account the orientations of the country's development strategy, which aims essentially to lay the foundations of a knowledge economy, notably through the promotion of buoyant high added value sectors.

Mr. Daoues pointed to reforms carried out in Tunisia in matters of statistical information, to bring the national statistical system up to international standards in force, highlighting the Tunisian-European partnership in this area. In another connection, he laid emphasis on the importance of boosting inter-Maghreb co-operation in this field, to improve statistical information systems on enterprises in the region, and consequently boost Maghreb economic integration.
