Stationery boss steps up to sponsor annual panto; SPONSOR Iain Laing ? 0191 201 6429 ? email@example.com.
STATIONERY magnate Peter Brack has embraced his passion for theatre by stepping up to sponsor Newcastle Theatre Royal's pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk next year.
Brack, who owns Brack Office Solutions in Sunderland, was a former child actor and at 15 enjoyed success studying with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. He performed in a number of shows including The Caucasian Chalk Circle.
Although he went on to adopt a more traditional career path, working in stationery sales before setting up his own company in 2006, he never lost his love of acting and over the years has played lead in plays and musicals including Fagin in Oliver! (on several occasions), Jud Fry in Oklahoma and in Harold Hill in The Music Man. He has also produced several amateur shows.
Brack has been supplying Newcastle Theatre Royal with office supplies for years, but it was only recently the Theatre Royal team discovered the company MD's love of acting.
He said: "The Theatre Royal told me they were looking for a local sponsor for their panto Jack and the Beanstalk - and I couldn't resist the chance to get involved! I love pantomime and this is one of my favourites, and the theatre needs the support of local business. These are hard times for the arts in Newcastle.
"Sponsoring next year's pantomime is a great way for our company to support theatre in the region and is also a good business decision as the promotional package provided by the Theatre is great value for money."
"I've always loved theatre. I was originally drawn to drama while at Biddick School in Washington and thought it was a good way of getting out of lessons!
"It turns out the teachers thought I had talent and put me forward for an audition for the National Youth Theatre. At a young age I found myself living in London and taking to the stage - an amazing experience."
Philip Bernays, CEO of Newcastle Theatre Royal said: "To have the support of local business in these difficult economic times is invaluable.
"To have the support of someone who has a lifelong passion for the arts, as Peter does, is especially nice for us, as he has an innate understanding and appreciation of our business".
Brack Office Solutions is thriving at North East Business and Innovation Centre in Sunderland, from where it specialises in stationery, office furniture, school educational supplies, corporate gifts and promotional items. Jack and the Beanstalk - the Giant Pantomime Spectacular! opens at Newcastle Theatre Royal Tuesday, November 26, 2013 and runs until Saturday, January 18, 2014.
