State of California Leverages KANA for New Wireless Notification and Personalized Energy Saving Features of Government Portal.

KANA (NASDAQ: KANA), the leading provider of eCRM solutions, today announced that the State of California has integrated KANA's technology into the new wireless features on the My California State Internet portal -- -- to provide citizens of California with real-time status on energy shortfalls, traffic updates, lottery results and a range of other information from the state government.

Leveraging the power of the KANA Connect e-mail management application and the KANA Knowledge product, the State of California, working with Deloitte Consulting, has now added wireless notification capabilities to its leading-edge state portal, which launched earlier this year. As a result, visitors to the portal as well as the new Flex Your Power energy Website ( can easily register and receive crucial, real-time information disseminated directly to virtually any wireless device currently available. Such devices include personal digital assistants (PDAs) (e.g., RIM Blackberry, Compaq, Handspring, Palm, and Sony) and other email-capable and Short Message Service (SMS) devices (e.g., cellular telephones and pagers).

Notifying businesses and individuals of impending power shortfalls is critical to preventing rolling blackouts. Via KANA Connect, the state will now be able to communicate directly with business and individuals to notify them when air conditioners, appliances and lights should be turned down to conserve electricity and prevent blackouts.

The new wireless features are powered by the integration of KANA Connect with the personalization engine provided by BroadVision's One-To-One Enterprise platform. The combination allows citizens of California to register for information to be sent directly to their wireless device, or to browse through the portal for the information they require.

In addition to the wireless notification feature, KANA Knowledge, a robust knowledge base application that provides self- and assisted-service, is being added to the new Flex Your Power Web site, providing energy conservation tips that are personalized for individual homeowners, information on current energy initiatives and ways to contribute to the overall energy conservation effort. KANA Knowledge is also being leveraged to dramatically improve upon what had been a simple FAQ section of the portal. Citizens can be guided to more than 214 energy saving solutions through the Digital Librarian, or through natural query. The state is adding additional content quickly and KANA Knowledge will soon help the State of California offer easy access to more than 1,000 solutions.
