State Board of Nursing updates from the January 2008 dull Board meeting.

At the first Full Board meeting of the year, the Board of Nursing announced that the location of the official posting of all meeting notices is the Division of Registrations reception area located in Suite 1350 of One Civic Center Plaza, Denver, Colorado. All Full Board meetings, Inquiry Panel meetings, Nurse Aide Advisory Committee meetings, and any other special meetings of the Board of Nursing that may occur throughout the year will be posted there as well as on the Board of Nursing's web page at www.dora.state. nursing.

The Chapter XII Rules and Regulations for the Impaired Professional Diversion Program were repealed, effective June 1, 2008, as a result of the statutory change that requires the Board to engage in a competitive bidding process to select the vendor to provide the services of a "Nursing Peer Health Assistance or Nurse Alternative to Discipline Program." The competitive bidding process is underway at the present time and the Board hopes to have a contract in place with the selected vendor by June 1, 2008.

Policy 30-08 was approved, which allows the Program Director or designee to cancel the Prescriptive Authority of an Advanced Practice Nurse who fails to provide a current collaborative agreement to the Board of Nursing. There was previously no policy or procedure in place to administratively handle this situation.

Policy 60-04 was approved and sets forth procedures for the calculation of full-time to part-time faculty ratios as outlined in Chapter II Rules, paragraph 3.4. This policy provides the education program the ability to calculate the full-time to part-time calculation based on individual programs rather than requiring all programs to be combined in a single calculation ratio. This ratio calculation promotes and maintains adequate faculty consistency and measures programs accurately. This policy was created as a result of discussion with the Governor's Task Force on Nurse Workforce and Patient Care.

Policy 60-05 was approved to further clarify the definition of "Nursing Education Program" as it relates to students who elect to exit the educational program to obtain licensure as a practical nurse. Previously education programs that allowed exit options had to define the option as a separate program and fulfill those requirements. This allows the education program to be defined by the original admission criteria and allow the flexibility to obtain licensure as a practical nurse and continue with his/her professional nursing education.
