Starving Filipino children need help

It should come to the world's attention that every one in three children in the Philippines is malnourished. This is the same number for children in sub-Saharan Africa. Since the Filipino government obviously cannot provide for their people, it is the role of every citizen in the U.S. to play their part in supporting starving Filipino children. It is unjust that we stand by while 28 out of 1,000 Filipino children die before their fifth birthday.

I am proud to say that I am part of an activist group at Vernon Hills High School dedicated to helping the 7 million starving children in the Philippines.

This starvation is mainly due to the poverty that dominates the Philippines. Because Filipino politicians chose to focus on projects that improve their economy globally instead of domestically, Filipino citizens are left with scarce jobs and zero nutrition education. Children are born malnourished and food is so out of economical means that 25 percent of Filipino children often go a whole day without one meal.

Clearly, it is essential that we take a stand for the voiceless Filipino children. While it might not affect the U.S. directly, it is morally unacceptable that so many children are starving to death due to inadequate action.

Publicizing starvation in the Philippines would be a major step toward helping the Filipino children.

Donating to charities concerned with such urgent issues would also provide huge support.

Personally donating less than a dollar a day to Save the Children would feed a Filipino child for an entire year.

It is not too late to save the Filipino children if we all open our eyes to the injustices before us and choose to do something about it.

Time to fight NRA

How in the world did this country of 323 million people become so subjugated by the policies and views of 5 million members of the NRA? How did they ever gain such control over our elected state and national political representatives? It's long overdue for us as citizens to stand up and fight with and for our children for some common sense gun laws for all our families. Now is the time to fight.
