Stars nursing injuries with a curry cure.

TOP footballers are using a spicy component of turmeric to treat muscle pain.

Curcumin, which gives the curry ingredient its yellow colour, can reduce inflammation and could one day supplement aspirin and paracetamol, say scientists Physiotherapists at Spanish side Athletic Bilbao are testing it on muscle aches that can put players out of action for days.

The breakthrough was presented at a FIFA conference on football medicine in London at the weekend.

Study leader Francek Drobnic said: "Paracetamol or aspirin don't work very well and cause side effects. Curcumin has a benefit."

The treatment is launched this month under the Ateronon Active brand for arthritis and rheumatism.
