PANTO stars surprised shoppers by browsing the aisles in costume

Prince Charming and Cinderella's friend Buttons were spotted doing their Christmas shopping in Newcastle's Eldon Square as part of their promotion for this year's pantomime at the Journal Tyne Theatre.

Actors Jennifer Wren, playing the Prince, and Charlie Richmond, who stars as Buttons, visited shoppers at Poundland, which is supporting the production of Cinderella by donating goody bags to give away on stage.

There was lots of laughter as the pair stayed in character for their visit, discussing how the credit crunch is affecting Prince Charming's "royal purse", and how Cinderella loves to shop for beauty products.

Cinderella runs from December 5 to January 3 and features award winning comedians Maxie & Mitch.

The comic duo have been entertaining audiences for more over the last 10 years, and will this year play Sharon and Tracey, the Ugly Sisters who everyone loves to hate.

Brendan Healy will be playing Cinderella's stepmother, making three dames in one pantomime.
