Starry, Starry night; Clubbing: Riva Starr.

ONE of the world's standout DJs and producers heads to Teesside tomorrow night.

RIVA STARR, left, will be behind the decks cooking up his unique blend of tunes at The Arena, in Middlesbrough.

Riva Starr - aka Stefano Miele - is considered one of the most imaginative DJs around.

In essence he uses any music which inspires him.

He has also coined the term "Snatch!" to describe his personal bootleg remix technique - snatching and pick-pocketing any music style and making it his own.

He has also launched Snatch! Records.

Riva's music moves from style to style but you somehow always know that he is the brains behind it.

"I'm a house DJ, my house style is like a magician's hat," he says. "You can put your hand in there and you won't know what will come out of it."

Riva has an impressive catalogue of releases and re-mixes to his name on key dance labels such as Made 2 Play, Get Physical, Dirtybird, Kindisch and Southern Fried.

His diverse but distinctive sound has helped him notch up a fan-base ranging from Annie Mac to Pete Tong, Tiesto to Riccardo Villalobos, Carl Cox to DJ Sneak, and Groove Armada to Sven Vath.

His re-mixes are as diverse as his own productions, having already re-worked tunes by The Gossip, Usher, Plan B and Estelle among others.

"The Riva Starr sound has many different angles to it," Riva adds.

"It's funny, sometimes it's grotesque and sometimes it's bouncy and dark, it really reflects my personality."

Riva's latest album If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade was released to critical acclaim.

The DJ's CV must be one of the most impressive around.

Last year he played at huge clubs including Cocoon, Space, and Pacha in Ibiza.

He also hit the decks at festivals including Glastonbury, The Big Chill, and Fuji Rocks and Womb in Japan.

Riva has previously been named as Player of the Year in iDJ Magazine, as well as Mixmag's Star of the Year.

He's managed a lot already but it seems there is still a great deal to come from Riva Starr.
