MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 1998--

Starlight Leverages Expertise in Designing and Deploying

Streaming Audio and Video Applications to Create All-in-One

Software and Services Bundle

Starlight Networks, Inc., the leading provider of streaming media solutions for enterprise communications, today announced the availability of StarLive!(TM) the first integrated package of streaming media software and services to deliver interactive corporate communications to desktops throughout an organization. StarLive! customers can access familiar Web browser interfaces to view live and pre-recorded corporate presentations, along with synchronized slides. End users can communicate directly with the presenter using real-time chat technology and other Web-based collaboration tools. From high-impact executive briefings to corporate training sessions and company announcements, organizations can leverage StarLive! to create easy-to-access streaming media-based meetings that can reach all employees -- without requiring them to leave their desks.

StarLive! integrates live and on-demand streaming media software, including Starlight's StarCast(R) IP-multicast and StarWorks(R) video-on-demand products, as well as NetShow from Microsoft and RealVideo from RealNetworks. Starlight's RapidMedia(TM) professional services group has utilized its experience in designing and implementing a full range of media-enabled applications and created a complete turnkey intranet communications solution based on these products.

Within as little as three weeks of an initial planning meeting with Starlight, businesses can deploy live or pre-recorded presentations and events across the enterprise. For example, company presidents can leverage StarLive! to extend the reach of their leadership by regularly addressing all employees, regardless of where they are located -- ensuring corporate goals and ideals are consistently articulated and understood.

"StarLive! provides concrete value and fast return-on-investment to companies seeking to cost-effectively improve their corporate communications capabilities," said Jim Long, president and CEO of Starlight Networks. "By working with hundreds of corporate customers to create successful enterprise communications applications, Starlight's RapidMedia group has developed the expertise to quickly and effectively implement customized streaming media solutions."

"Effective corporate communications is a critical objective for GE Information Services due to the global, diverse and sophisticated nature of our products and services," said Trudy Wonder, corporate communications manager for GEIS, one of the top twelve divisions of the General Electric Co. "Starlight's expertise was a critical success factor in the deployment of our new video-based employee communication system. We continue to work with Starlight, and are excited about expanding the application of this new technology in the future."

"Given the wide dispersion of our field activities, improving enterprise communications is extremely important to the Department of Defense," said John Downey, Deputy Director for Information Management for the Pentagon's Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition and Technology). "New streaming media solutions over the Internet, as well as over our rapidly expanding intranets and extranets, will enable us to communicate more effectively with Defense field activities and our industrial base partners. We are particularly pleased to be working closely with Starlight to explore the exciting interactive communications capabilities of its new StarLive! product."
