Star struck by blow as Novak is listed.

NEWCASTLE Blue Star have placed ace striker Lee Novak on the transfer list at his own request.

The former Gretna player, who was Blue Star's leading scorer with 27 goals in the UniBond League Division One North last season, recently returned from Australia and indicated to director of football Bob Morton he wished to move from Kingston Park.

Morton said: "It is a disappointment, but I discussed his request with coaches Dean Gordon and Mark Birch and decided to let him go.

"We have three top-class strikers in Mark Sheeran, who was with us last season, and newcomers Paul Brayson and Stephen Young.

"Brayson starred with Gateshead last season and Young has been a prolific scorer in the Northern League, latterly with Morpeth Town."

Blue Star, meanwhile, have vehemently denied making a bid for prolific Whitley Bay striker Lee Kerr.

Morton added: "A rumour is circulating saying we have offered a five-figure sum, but we have not even spoken to the lad or to Whitley Bay.

"All this speculation is nonsense and is doing neither Kerr, his club, nor Blue Star any good."
