Star Paper Tubes enters Mexican joint venture.

Star Paper Tube, Rock Hill, SC, recently signed a letter of intent to join Transformados Papeleros Pebe, SA de CV, a Mexican paper tube manufacturer, in forming a joint manufacturing facility in Mexico to serve the Mexican market.

The joint venture, Star Paper Tube de Mexico (Starmex), will be located in the Mexico City area and will manufacture spirally wound tubes and cores for the domestic market with the textile, paper and flexible packaging industries as the major applications. This is the first international venture for Star Paper Tube and company officials cite the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) as a major factor in the decision to find a Mexican partner.
