Stampede at Mugabe election rally kills at least one in Zimbabwe.

Harare, Ramadan 7, 1434, Jul 16, 2013, SPA -- At least one person was killed Tuesday in a stampede at an election rally for Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, police said.

"People were trying to force themselves into a fully packed stadium," said Charity Charamba, police spokeswoman.

"That resulted in a stampede which claimed a life of a woman." Police officials at the stadium in Chitungwiza, a bedroom community of Harare, gave a higher death toll, putting it at four to seven.

Mugabe, 89 and Africa's oldest leader, addressed supporters of his Zanu PF party at the rally 30 kilometres south-east of the capital as he prepares for July 31 elections.
