Returning to action after nearly a week off, Barrington's softball team didn't miss a beat with its bats.
Senior Katherine Stagnito belted a grand slam and classmate Kendall Peterson added a 2-run homer as the Fillies won the Mid-Suburban League crossover 12-1 in five innings over visiting Wheeling on Wednesday at the Fields of Dreams.
Fillies senior Barbara Covek (12-3) tossed a 4-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Stagnito ended up 2-for-3 with 4 RBI and 2 runs while Brynn Nevers (2-for-3, 3 RBI and Samantha Murphy (2-for-3, 2 runs) were also multiple hitters for the hosts.
Teammate Gina Magro added a double as Barrington improved to 17-3 and 8-1 in the MSL West.
Emmie LaCaeyse had a double for the Wildcats (2-12, 0-9).
Hersey 13, Conant 0 (6 inn): Hersey raised its record to 12-4 and 6-3 in the MSL East with the win under the lights at the Bandits Stadium in Rosemont.
Winning pitcher Sarah Bailitz (2-for-2, 2B) homered while other multiple hitters for the Huskies were Brianna Luciano (3-for-4, 3 2B), Chloe Gordon 2-for-3, 3B), Makayla Tsagalis (2-for-4, 3B, 2B), Natalia Kubsik (2-for-3, 3B, 2B) and Lauren Steininger (2-for-2).
Neti Napoli also doubled for the Huskies. Bailitz (6-2) pitched the first four innings and Luciano went the final two for Hersey.
Trystin Lovas and Emily Taucher had the hits for host Conant (2-14, 2-8).
Leyden 15, Proviso East 0 (4 inn): Leyden (14-4) was led on offense by Yaritza Frias (2-for-3, 2 run), Tara Mackey (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Kailey Kirkwood (2-for-2, 3 runs), Elyse McLaughlin (3-for-3, 4 RBI, 2 runs), Clarissa Messina (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Jennifer Molini (2-for-3, 2 runs).
Bre Duetscher (5 strikeouts) and Emma Bertsche (2 strikeouts) each worked two innings for the Eagles, who were hosting at the Ballpark at Rosemont.
