Staggers & Thompson.

Whitney Lee Staggers and William Michael Thompson II were united in marriage at half past five o'clock in the evening on December 4, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Starkville. Rev. A Stacey Parvin officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erie Harding (Buddy) Staggers III, of Starkville. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. Charles Eric Manning and the late Mrs, Joyce Manning of Columbus and Mrs. Erie Staggers and the late Mr. Erie Staggers of Starkville.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Michael Thompson of Madison. He is the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Edwin Werkheiser of Jackson and Mrs. Robert Lee Thompson and the late Mr. Robert Lee Thompson of Thornton.

Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Carr, Mr. Robert Ridgway V, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Thompson. Alison Taylor Alexander read scripture chosen by the bride and groom. Nuptial music was provided by Jeremy Adcock, organist; Olivia Boatman, flautist; and Michael Brown, trumpeter. Soloist Nancy Beverly was accompanied by Ted Beverly playing the clavinova.


Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a taffeta mermaid-style gown, featuring a sweetheart neckline. The pleated bodice finished in an asymmetrical swag that was swept and gathered at one side. Her fingertip-length veil was a family heirloom, also worn by her aunt, and was made of gossamer Belgium lace and embellished with antique seed pearls. The bride's bouquet was a nosegay of miniature calla lilies accented with white bouvardia, white ranunculuses, and ivory Freesias. The bouquet was bustled in candlelight linen and bound in pearl cording.

Attending the bride as matron of honor was Brittany Carr Ridgway. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Farris, Jennifer Gillentine, Lindsey Phillips Gilliland, Meghan Washburn Heimke, Kaylan Kline Ledet, Carley Montgomery, Katherine Peebles, Jenny Cobb Sneed, Catherine Bozeman Thorns, and Stephanie Zepponi. Each wore a plum chiffon dress featuring tiny mushroom pleats crisscrossing the bodice.

Flower girls were Jaiden Rushing and Avery Werkheiser, cousin of the groom. The bride's proxy was Lauren Cobb. Honorary bridesmaids were Cadi Thompson, Carmen Thompson, and Julia Thompson, cousins of the groom.

The groom's father, William Thompson, served as best man. Groomsmen were Fort Bridgforth, James Bridgforth, Will Fratesi, Frank Greenlee, Andy Jones, Will Jones, Benny Long Chris Shelton, Matt Smith, Will Staggers, brother of the bride; and Alex Whittington and Andrew Whittington.

Following the ceremony, a reception, hosted by the bride's parents, was held at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point

On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Hotel Chester in Starkville. For Whitney's rehearsal attire, she wore her mother's wedding dress, which was redesigned by Sandra Ashford On the day of the wedding a bridesmaids' brunch was hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Walters. Friends of the groom hosted a brunch at Old Waverly Golf Club.

Following a honeymoon in Puna Canta in the Dominican Republic, the couple is at home in Greenwood.
