Staffordshire News: Test your electric blankets; CANNOCK.

RESIDENTS in Cannock are being urged to ensure their electric blankets are safe.

A free electric blanket check is being offered to families as part of a joint safety campaign by Cannock Chase Council, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Staffordshire Trading Standards.

It comes after 70 per cent of those tested in Staffordshire last year were found to be unsafe.

Faulty, worn or dangerous electric blankets are the second biggest cause of domestic house fires.

Everyone over the age of 60 whose blanket fails the test will be offered a standard single or double under blanket or over blanket as a replacement.

Checks will be held at Rugeley Fire Station, Bryan's Lane, Rugeley, on Thursday, from 10am until 4pm, and Cannock Fire Station, in Old Hednesford Road, Cannock, on Friday, between 10am and 4pm.
