Staff of Govt-owned Firm Accused of Divulging Data,C?to Rival Company.

Summary: DUBAI u A legal consultant stood trial in absentia in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday on the charge of divulging professional and confidential information while assigned with providing a public service at a government-owned firm.

The 37-year-old American citizen is believed to have divulged confidential information, while in his post at Meeras Capital, part of Meeras Holding, pertaining to its financial situation, clientsAE names, staff status and state of execution of projects, to a rival firm.

A source close to the case told Khaleej Times that the defendant is not a runaway but is outside the UAE for family reasons. An Emirati legal consultant at Meeras Capital told the prosecutors that the defendant had access to confidential information pertaining to contracts and business deals of Meeras Holding. oWhile reviewing his official electronic mail address, we came across correspondence exchanged between the accused and a female legal consultant from an Abu Dhabi-ased rival firm in February last year,o the emirati claimed. The defendant was also quoted by the Emirati witness as saying that he was looking for a job opportunity in Abu Dhabi or Doha as he feels his company was heading speedily towards liquidation. u
