Stab thug locked up.
A THUG who stabbed a stranger in an unprovoked attack was branded an "unspeakable coward" by a judge yesterday.
Stewart Drennan, 21, was jailed for six years for the brutal attack which left Elaine Campbell, 36, lying semi-conscious in a pool of blood near Glasgow city centre.
The High Court in Glasgow heard how an unknown woman - who was with Drennan at the time - had hit Elaine on the head with a hammer, fracturing her skull.
The incident happened in August, 2002, near the Trongate, as Elaine and her sister, Rosalee Jack, were crossing the road looking for a cash machine.
Sentencing Drennan, of Glasgow, Judge Michael O'Grady said: "To stab anyone is a serious matter.
"But to do what you did to this young woman was an act of unspeakable cowardliness."
