St. Jude Medical Announces Executive Promotion To Newly Created Position.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Jude Medical, Inc. (NYSE:STJ) today announced the promotion of Peter Spadaro to the newly created position of U.S. Division vice president for cardiovascular sales. Spadaro, who has worked in the medical-technology industry for almost 25 years, will have overall U.S. sales responsibility in the areas of cardiology, cardiac surgery and surgical atrial fibrillation (AF).

St. Jude Medical recently announced it is combining its Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology Divisions to create a new Cardiovascular Division, effective January 1, 2007. This group will focus on developing and launching medical device technology and services for patients who suffer from vascular disease or structural heart defects.

The company's U.S. Division, which is responsible for field sales and customer support services, created the new position to more effectively support its cardiac surgery and cardiology customers. Spadaro will oversee specialized sales forces in each of his areas of responsibility.

Spadaro has been with St. Jude Medical for almost 20 years, beginning as a territory sales manager for cardiac surgery in 1988, during a time when St. Jude Medical focused exclusively on heart valves. Spadaro rose through the ranks of St. Jude Medical, serving as regional sales director, director of U.S. sales and vice president of sales, as the company expanded its product portfolio. Since 2002, Spadaro has served as area vice president for St. Jude Medical's Mid-Atlantic Region, focusing mainly on the company's cardiac rhythm management and AF product lines.

"This new position underscores our commitment to continuously improve our organization so we can best support our clinician customers and their patients," said Michael T. Rousseau, president of St. Jude Medical's U.S. Division. "Pete's extensive med-tech experience and expertise across a broad range of specialties will be invaluable as we focus on the evolving needs of our customers."
