St. Joseph Hospital's Breast Care Center Receives Perfect Score of 100 on Its Way to Multiple ACR Accreditations.

Business Editors/Health/Medical Writers

ORANGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2003

The Comprehensive Breast Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange today announced it has recently been awarded a three-year term of accreditation from the American College of Radiology's (ACR) Breast Ultrasound Accreditation Program. Receiving accreditation for breast ultrasound, core-needle biopsy and fine-needle aspiration cytology, St. Joseph Hospital's Breast Center also received a perfect score of 100 following the evaluation process.

Accreditation from ACR is awarded to facilities for the achievement of high-practice standards after a voluntary peer review evaluation of its practice. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field of breast ultrasound conduct the evaluations. They assess the qualifications of the personnel, adequacy of facility equipment, as well as quality assessment and improvement activities including peer review.

"Not only is accreditation from the ACR difficult to receive on the first attempt, but our Comprehensive Breast Center received multiple accreditations and a perfect score as well -- something very few facilities can say," said Marie La Fargue, executive director, Breast Services, St. Joseph Hospital. "Our physicians and technicians have the very best credentials, use the latest equipment and offer the most-advanced techniques to ensure that every patient knows how committed we are to delivering comprehensive and exemplary care."

St. Joseph Hospital, a 448-bed, not-for-profit Catholic hospital, is one of the largest medical facilities serving Orange County and also is one of the only hospitals in Southern California to offer ACR accreditation in breast ultrasound, core-needle biopsy and fine-needle aspiration cytology.

"Participating in the breast imaging accreditation process is voluntary, however we felt it was an ideal way to illustrate St. Joseph Hospital's extreme dedication to our patients," continued La Fargue. "It's important that the patients who trust our staff of professionals with their wellness can be assured that they will receive optimal evaluation of the breast or tissue sampling, with the lowest possible risk and best clinical outcome."
