Sri Lankan envoy sorry for MP slur.

SRI Lankan high commissioner to India, Prasad Kariyawasam, on Thursday apologised after he was summoned by the external affairs ministry for his comments that sought to link Indian MPs with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam ( LTTE).

Kariyawasam was called to the MEA, where joint secretary ( Bangladesh- Sri Lanka- Myanmar- Maldives) Harsh Vardhan Shringla asked him to explain his comments alleging ties between some MPs of the AIADMK, DMK and MDMK and the LTTE. Talking to the media after the meeting, Kariyawasam said: " I have a lot of respect for Tamil Nadu Parliamentarians. Some of them are good friends. I would like to apologise to the MPs of Tamil Nadu if I have caused any discontent or distress in their minds. I feel sorry about that." The high commissioner was earlier quoted by a daily as saying that New Delhi should investigate the Tamil Nadu MPs sympathetic to the Tamil cause.
