Squad formed to raze illegal constructions.
RAWALPINDI -- The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Wednesday formed a 10-member squad which will demolish illegal constructions in 46 union councils of the city.
The squad will work separately from the building inspectors and will demolish the illegal constructions in commercial areas after getting a report from the civic body's monitoring team.
Talking to Dawn, RMC Chief Municipal Officer Khalid Javed Goraya said the basic aim of the squad is to raze the illegal constructions in commercial plazas.
He said that before the formation of the squad, the building department had to adopt lengthy procedure to demolish the illegal construction which led to stay orders but now, we decided to establish the squad which will take action immediately without wasting time.
He said that there was a dire need to conduct the raids in different areas of the city to check illegal constructions and to stop it.
He said that squad would conduct the survey of the city after getting list of the illegal constructions from the building branch.
He said that the squad would also help the civic body to raze the illegal construction during anti-encroachment drive.
He said the drive was going on in the city areas and the squad would help the RMC official to remove encroachments on footpaths and roadsides.
