Spurious drugs racket busted.

Summary: SHARJAH u Sharjah Police recently foiled a counterfeit sex potency drugs racket worth millions of dirhams.

The police received a complaint from a pharmaceutical firm and distributor regarding illegal promoters who C were promoting counterfeit capsules of registered capsules such as Viagra and Cialis.

According to a police official: "It was found out that the Arab promoters were allegedly contacting and making bargains with people willing to buy C the counterfeit Viagra capsules, apart from other tablets."

Counterfeit Cialis tablets numbering 62,740 in addition to 5,632 Viagra tablets were seized. Other spurious body creams were also seized.

The police also seized two boxes that contained the trademarks of the original products.

An Arab expatriate was arrested while attempting to sell capsules C worth $10,000 to a purchaser and upon arrest, he confessed to selling the spurious medicines.

"We seized five cartons each containing 8,820 tablets. The forger confirmed to the police that he had other cartons stored at a rented apartment in Al Butiana. On searching the apartment, large amounts of capsules worth millions of dirhams were found." The suspect is currently detained and will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
