Sprint Provides Innovative Layer 2 Services to Burlington Resources; Burlington Resources Selects SprintLink Frame Relay(TM) for Domestic, International Use.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint today announced that Burlington Resources Inc. , one of the world's largest independent oil and gas companies, has selected SprintLink Frame Relay(TM) service for domestic and international implementation. Last week, Sprint introduced three products based on L2TPv3 technology, SprintLink Frame Relay(TM), SprintLink Packet Private Line(TM) and SprintLink Virtual LAN Services(TM).

Sprint is the first global provider to offer products based on Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol Version 3 (L2TPv3) -- an emerging industry standard, which is a feature of Cisco IOS(R) Software.

"L2TPv3 was pioneered by Cisco working collaboratively with Sprint, offering enterprise customers the opportunity to maximize existing investments in their legacy frame relay and ATM infrastructures, while tapping the power, flexibility and security of Sprint's global IP network," said John Dupree, area vice president - Sales, Southwest Region, Sprint.

"SprintLink Frame Relay provides a seamless migration path to an end-to- end IP VPN. Customers can migrate individual sites at their own pace, with simplicity and minimal cost. We're pleased to work with Cisco to deliver efficient, secure and reliable solutions for companies like Burlington Resources."

According to IDC Research,* many enterprises are still adopting a "wait- and-see" approach with IP services and report that L2TPv3 technology provides an opportunity for enterprises with legacy frame relay infrastructure to consider the value proposition of IP platforms before migrating to IP VPNs.

The strategic relationship between Sprint and Cisco builds on a long- standing relationship between these telecommunications and networking industry leaders to forge strong sales, joint marketing and technology ties well into the future. Sprint and Cisco have teamed up in sales and marketing efforts to deliver a wide range of equipment and services to customers. Initially, the companies are focusing on jointly selling IP-based and broadband services, including dedicated IP, IP VPN and IP telephony. A key differentiator of this relationship is the Technology Advisory Board, which is composed of Sprint and Cisco subject-matter experts who actively manage technology initiatives.
