Spring '93 mail ballot yields historic results.

A significant change in the governing structure of the National Environmental Health Association was approved overwhelmingly by the membership in the association's 1993 spring mail ballot. NEHA's second vice president was elected, and four Regional Vice Presidents also were selected in the voting process.

The new Articles of Incorporation, which replaces NEHA's old Constitution, reorganizes the representative bodies to provide more efficient and effective leadership. The Board of Directors, formerly composed of the nationally elected officers, regional vice presidents and affiliate presidents, now includes the national officers and regional vice presidents. This 15-member group previously functioned as NEHA's Executive Committee. The Board, together with the affiliate presidents (or their appointed representatives), will comprise the newly-formed Council of Delegates.

The new Second Vice President of the National Environmental Health Association is Peter D. Thornton, R.S., MPH of Daytona Beach, Florida.

* Stacey L. Madson, Idaho Falls, Idaho is the new Region 1 Vice President. That region includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska.

* Lawrence A. Gales, R.S., was reelected as Vice President for Region 5, which covers Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico.

* Region 7 elected Michael Moon to continue as Vice President for North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida.

* And Bruce Chelikowsky will continue his tenure as Vice President of Region 10. This new region encompasses NEHA's Industry Affiliate, the National Association of Noise Control Officials and National Conference of Local Environmental Health Administrators, and the Uniformed Services.

Congratulations to those recently elected to serve the National Environmental Health Association...and a special thank you to all who took an active role in their association by voting for these important issues and electing your representatives.
