Sprecher releases Commando, a barrel-aged Scotch-style ale.

The Sprecher Brewing Co. of Glendale, WI, has announced the release of Commando, a peated strong Scotch-style ale, aged in white oak bourbon barrels (above). The company has also released Czar Brew, a barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout. "After two years Sprecher's brewmaster removed the 'Do Not Disturb' signs from the white oak bourbon barrels in which Commando and Czar Brew rested," said Anne Sprecher of the Sprecher marketing department. "These deliciously complex brews have melded and mellowed to a degree never achieved before, at least not one available for public consumption. The two years spent resting in bourbon barrels subtly integrated the many distinguishing tastes in both these beers. At 12% abv, Czar Brew and Commando are designed for savoring in a snifter as one would a cognac." Commando and Czar were packaged the first week in November. They go out to retail outlets the week of November 10th.
