1-4 Trouble falling asleep, and staying asleep, are the main symptoms of insomnia. Even waking too early in the morning is a sign of insomnia. Most people need between seven and nine hours of sleep every night in order to wake up feeling refreshed. However, some people need less sleep. What makes people with insomnia different from people who sleep fewer hours is the quality of their day. If you wake up refreshed and with energy, you are probably getting enough sleep.

5-7 If you wake up feeling tired, or if you fight sleepiness at work and have little energy or patience, insomnia may be your problem. Talk to your GP about treatments that can improve your sleep without making you groggy the next day.
