MIAMI--(BW SportsWire)--Aug. 29, 2000

SportsYA!, (, the leading Spanish and Portuguese Internet sports portal, today announced the launch of its English-language page targeting English-speaking U.S. Hispanics. The site will provide real-time coverage of virtually all U.S. and international sports, but will place emphasis in sports that have particular appeal to the U.S. Hispanic population.

U.S. Hispanics represent one of the fastest growing segments in the Internet/Online market, with approximately 11.5 million Hispanic users actively navigating the Web. In addition, a recent study conducted by Strategic Research Corporation(a) demonstrated that many U.S. Hispanics prefer to obtain their information in English rather than Spanish.

"Our Spanish USA page has performed phenomenally well with U.S. Hispanics. However, we've learned that a significant part of our audience want their sports covered from a Latino perspective but would prefer to read it in English. Our goal is to fulfill this unmet need in such a significant market," said Emilio Romano, President and CEO of SportsYA!.

The new site will focus its coverage on the sports most favored by U.S. Hispanics--soccer, boxing, baseball, football and basketball. And it will provide special coverage of Latin American soccer leagues and the World Cup national teams of Mexico and Central and South America.

The new English-language site will also be home to the newly created "SportsYA! Latino Hall of Fame," which will honor the historic accomplishments of Latinos in the world of sport. Inductees will be selected by fans via on-line votes conducted on a monthly basis. The first voting will be for the soccer and baseball categories. "Roberto Clemente, Sammy Sosa, Fernando Valenzuela, Lee Trevino, Roberto Duran , Pele, and Diego Maradona are all Latinos that have made a profound impact on Sports in the US and all over the world. The SportsYA! Latino Hall of Fame" will allow fans to recognize and honor their achievements and provide a place to house the statistical, historical and anecdotal record of their careers," said Tony Nieves, VP Marketing of SportsYA!.
