Sports stars of future.

A SCHOOL is hailing its sporting stars of the future.

All five athletic teams from Kirkburton Middle School have qualified for a top tournament - the only school in Kirklees to do so.

The teams will be heading to the Partnership Finals to represent Kirklees at the West Yorkshire Sports Hall Athletics Finals to be held in Halifax.

Headteacher Gary Johnson, said: "We are so proud of all our pupils who always give 100% whether on the sports field or in the classroom. Their success reflects their talent and commitment and the hard work and dedication of the PE department. They are a credit to their school - the real stars of the future."

Notable achievements included: ? The Year 7 girls team gained second place, going forward to qualify for the Yorkshire Final in Hull . ? The Year 7 boys team were crowned champions and go through to the Yorkshire Final as winners.

? Kirkburton's Pan-Disability Sports Hall athletes and the Year 6 boys Cross Country Team both took third place in the West Yorkshire Winter Games opened by gold medallist, world champion wheelchair sprinter paralympian Hannah Cockcroft at Leeds Metropolitan University.

? The Year 6 girls Cross Country Team took the honours as West Yorkshire Winter Games Champions.
