Sports global unifier.
Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines general manager, Bakani Motlhabani says sports is a unifier globally.
Speaking during the annual inter-mine games prize giving ceremony in Orapa recently, Motlhabani said sports assisted to nurture and develop professional networks because games contributed to the building of a high performance organisational culture.
Motlhabani said the annual games encouraged interaction and relationship building among employees, families and Debswana's strategic business partners.
Debswana games, he said, represented the company's high regard for sports as well as commitment to promoting employee wellness and healthy living through physical exercise.
Through the initiative, he said the company strived to encourage employees to keep active and healthy at all times.
Motlhabani congratulated recipients of prizes, saying some had become permanent features on stage. He encouraged others to work harder for the coming games.
Employees' physical activity, he said, should not end with inter-mine games, urging everybody to continue playing sport.
He said it was commendable that more people chose healthier lifestyles and seeking harmony between body and spirit.
Orapa, he said, was transforming into a vibrant town, and challenged all sporting codes to improve their numbers by the end of the year. Motlhabani said they were looking at setting up a golf academy to train future golfers.
