Byline: LIZ LAMB

THE fashion stars of tomorrow came under the spotlight at a catwalk show at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.

Designs by talented final-year fashion students at Northumbria University were showcased on the runway in front of a packed audience of industry buyers, Press, VIPs, friends and family. The yearly event, which is being staged this year during NE1's Newcastle Fashion Week, is a chance for students to highlight their final collections.

Their work will then be showcased at the prestigious Graduate Fashion Week in London. The students put on an impressive performance which was warmly received by the audience.

Jenni Moore, of Backworth, Newcastle, had designed a menswear collection that was heavily influenced by body building.

A collection inspired by the RAF was also sent down the catwalk.

It was the work of Jennifer Broom, 22, from Coxhoe in County Durham, who used harnesses to give the effect of parachutes and provide a military feel to her designs.

Graduates are now working for high-profile companies including Ralph Lauren and Louis Vuitton.

Emma Goldsmitth, course leader, said: "The students have all been working very hard and were excited about seeing their designs on the catwalk."
