Sport hotting up nicely in good weather; COARSE ANGLING.

IT is a good time to be a coarse angler! The warmer conditions have resulted in an massive increase in sport and catches across the region with excellent nets and quality fish being reported!

Killingworth Lake, an often ignored local water, has shown its true potential by producing a great catch of bream.

Will Andrip put in the research and effort for a session which ended with six good bream - the best three weighing in at 9lb 6oz, 9lb 12oz and 10lbs.

Betso Benson enjoyed his first session of the year at Dissington Pond.

Targeting the ide, Betso fished single white maggot to take fish of 4lb 10oz, 4lb 12oz, 5lb 3ozs and finally a colossal catch of 5lb 8ozs!

Darren Watson endured arm- aching action at Eden Grange when he fought and eventually landed a cracking carp of 20lb 10ozs on a pole!

The first of the BWAC Senior Citizen / Disabled Series on Dissington Pond was won by Roy Small with 3lb 15ozs, followed by Steve Freer with 2lb 13 oz and Allan Cowan with 2lb 7ozs.

The latest three-hour Open on Tuesday at Eden Grange saw Tony Dowson take the win with 34lb 8ozs.

Paul Neave ended up second with 32lb 11oz ahead of Tim Michale and Danny Cunningham, who both recorded 24lb 10ozs.

Big Waters' trip to Eden Grange saw John Reynolds take the victory with 41lb 13ozs ahead of George Emmerson with 32lb 5oz and Tommy Smith with 29lb 10ozs.

Steve Woods won the Knock-Up at Whittle Dene last Sunday with 22lb 7ozs.

Sean Lister was second with 20lb 8oz and Chris Gowling followed with 19lb 6oz.

Consistency was the key for this who took the honours in the Forset Lane Three-Day Festival when the top three all had section wins each day.

Top weight over the three days was taken by Andy Nelson with 224lb 1oz, ahead of Lee Hellawell with 214lb 8oz and Rob Minikin with 169lb 2ozs.

Nine anglers took part in Durham City's Carp match on Brasside - but it was a single fish of 14lb 5ozs which gave the win to Brian Atcheson . Another ton-up came in Sunday's Open on Lookout Lake at the Angel, Martin Atkin weighed in a creditable 119lb 1oz to take the victory.
