Sport briefs: Kersey win.

ATHLETICS Holmfirth Harrier Rob Kersey won the Vets Over 55 category in 21st place overall in the Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix (Race 5) at Meanwood.

Bill Wade was second in the Over 65 section and Tim Cock third among 143 runners on an undulating woodland course.

First Holmfirth runner home was Gary Graham (M40), continuing his excellent form in eighth place. Sean McCaffrey (M40) was just three places behind with Kersey next, Robert Ellis, Wade and Cock. Peter Tipling (M50) ran his first race of the series.

The next race is at Neiley, Honley, on July 6, followed by the race from Heath Rugby Club, Stainland, on Wednesday July 16. Details of all events can be seen at www.yvaa.org
