Spoons scoop for Michael; .... Thursday, August 12, 2010 FEATURES 17 Ring Pete on 07030 399 350 and catch his City Talk 105.9 Pete Price Now I know how Robbie feels... show, Sunday to Thursday, between 10pm and 2am.

Byline: Pete Price

I'VE got a close friend called Michael Gould who has always wanted his five minutes of fame. I am pleased to say it has finally happened.

Michael is a successful business man who has a lovely family, but he has some irritating ways as most of us do. His party piece is he plays the spoons, badly, at any opportunity he gets.

Andy McCluskey of OMD is also a close friend, and he gets irritated by the spoon playing, especially when he plays Enola Gay, one of Andy's big hits.

Andy suggested one night as a joke, that if he promised never to pay the spoons again in his presence Michael could play on the next OMD album. Michael was good to his word for five years but never forgot Andy's promise.

When Andy started work on new album, History of Modern, OMD's first album for 14 years, he grudgingly allowed Michael into the studio to record the spoons. Fortunately you can barely hear his playing on the track, New Babies, New Toys.

The big question is will OMD allow Michael on stage with spoons at the ECHO Arena on November 4?
