Spooky gay inns: this Halloween, forgo the tricking and treating and instead check into a bona fide haunted queer-owned B&B.

Banting House Inn Toronto, 800-823-8856 A ghost wanders around in late-1800s period clothing, and since this house was once used as an animal research facility, guests claim they hear dogs barking and running through the halls.

Battlefield B&B Inn Gettysburg, Pa.; 888-766-3897 This lesbian-owned B&B on the Gettysburg Battlefield comes complete with the ghost of a Union soldier. Guests have felt cold hugs from a small girl and witnessed a flying lampshade.

Chevy Chase Beach Cabins Port Townsend Wash.; 360-385-1270 Not only host to the ghost of one of the previous owners, Mary Chase, the inn also has an alleged buried treasure on the grounds.

Federal House Inn Plymouth, N.H.; 603-536-4644 Grandpa Cummings greets visitors as he roams the halls, haunting this 1835 brick federal colonial inn.

Galen Moses House Bath, Maine; 888-442-8771 Spirits appear in period dress, but are friendly and are said not to play tricks.

Five Continents B&B New Orleans, 800-997-4652 Has not one but three spirits: a previous owner-master, a woman of color in a flowing white gown, and a cook who visits the kitchen area.

Notchland Inn Hart's Location, N.H.; 800-866-6131 This 1862 granite mansion in the White Mountains is home to the ghost Abigail, who writes her name on mirrors while guests nap.

Mansion of Saratoga Saratoga, N.Y.; 578-365-1111 The hauntings in this 1866 former home of George West (inventor of the paper bag!) include children found playing with an infant ghost and a photo taken of a vaporous presence.

Royal Elizabeth B&B Inn Tucson, 877-670-9022 This 1878 Victorian adobe mansion, next door to a historic mortuary, has a female ghost who hides objects and moves things when no one is looking.
