Spiritual values for earth community, updated ed.

Hallman, David G.

160 pages

Risk book series

David Hallman, a Canadian Christian author and an ecological advocate, argues that greed, domination, and fear are the values prevailing in Western societies that must be replaced post haste if we're to restore the planet. He offers an analysis of these values and how they are expressed in consumerism, economic globalization, and violence. He draws on sociological and psychological theories as well as theological arguments and biblical readings. He then explains how the seven values he offers will address practical and spiritual needs. They are gratitude, humility, sufficiency, justice, love, peace, faith & hope. In the end are appendices for resources, suggestions for group study, statements by the World Council of Churches on climate justice, as well as a record of their participation in UN climate conferences.
