Spills cause chaos; NORTH TODAY: TRANSPORT.

TWO spillages from lorries on busy Wearside roads caused chaos yesterday. Police were called at around 11.15am to a report of a spillage, thought to be diesel, on the A690 to the south of the city.

It made the carriageway slippery and resulted in several minor collisions. The road was reopened at around 3pm yesterday.

In a separate incident, an HGV jacknifed on the nearby A183, and also caused a spillage at around 12.39pm.

The A183 Chester Road was closed between the A19 junction and Penshaw in both directions until 3pm.
