WE'VE all been dumped - and it hurts.

Your partner/apple of your eye/ occasional bedmate has effectively quit for what they see as a better option.

So never mind the 'it's not you, it's me,' or 'your mate Matt is my actual soul-mate,' or 'you never change your bedsheets,' it's a blow to your selfesteem, confidence and sex life. It's like this with footballers who shift up the food chain, onto what they see as advancement in their career path and you, as the supporter who has just seen his 25-goal-a-season striker move for a larger salary, are crestfallen.

You have invested in that player. He has carried your dreams and hopes. His departure is a blow.

So when he moves - and I'm not talking about the Frank Lampards of this world who have played hundreds of games and set club records - the last thing you need to hear is: 'Thanks for everything.' Players such as Romelu Lukaku (left) might think it is a courteous to pen a farewell note. It isn't. It is by their actions they should be judged.

As a supporter, you've just been tossed aside by them.

It's not so much a 'thank you,' it's 'See you later, losers.' And it still hurts. So save your goodbyes for your colleagues in the dressing-room, the training-ground staff and coaches.

Supporters suffer their own hurt.

They'll get over it, of course they will.

But they don't need an insincere: 'Thanks for everything,' to really rub their noses in it.
