Spanish artist opens new Windows to World.

MUSCAT: Exhibition entitled Windows to the World by artist Jorge Aguilar Agon from Spain opened at the Bait Al Baranda yesterday.

This exhibition which is themed 'The Emerald Collection' was opened by Jose Luis Rosello Serra ambassador of Spain to the Sultanate of Oman. The exhibition ends on next Thursday.

His distinctive style of painting reflects a personal record of his travels and to date, he has had seven highly successful world tours and over 178 solo exhibitions.

In the limited edition catalogue that was presented to visitors at the venue artist Jorge Aguilar Agon says, "Only recently, and guided by a natural instinct of discovery, I spent a short time in Muscat. I was visiting friends while on my way to the Himalayas where I was to fulfil a lifelong ambition of reaching new horizons.

On my way back, I had the pleasure of visiting the Bait Al Baranda Visitor Centre and my presence here today is the direct result of that encounter. Ever since that visit, I have committed myself to unravelling and exploring what makes the two cultures of Oman and Spain link together artistically and, terms of temperament, so harmoniously."

He also adds, "This exhibition should be not only a testimony but a homage to my unknown ancestry. I have felt very much at ease depicting some of the rich and generous landscapes of Oman, and I wish to dedicate this collection of my work respectfully to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said."

Jose Luis Rosello Serra in a message said, "The Embassy of Spain in Oman is pleased to introduce the art loving people of the Sultanate to the work of the distinguished Spanish artist Jorge Aguilar Agon".

He says, "His paintings like his life, reflect an international influence. A real citizen of the world, he uses his power of expression to depict the ever-changing faces of nature and places where we live with extraordinary realism and attention to detail and yet always managing to add his poetic interpretation".

Jorge Aguilar Agon exhibition commemorates the artist's 75th anniversary, 55 years of which have been spent as a professional painter.

This will be the last exhibition of his seventh world tour but the first in the Sultanate of Oman.

The artist speaks six language fluently, which adds to his joy of communication with people in his constant travelling and he divides his time between his studios in London, Barcelona and the South of France.

Malik Al Hinai, director, Bait Al Baranda said, "Jorge's favourite subjects are landscapes and nature. The beauty of his paintings will certainly elicit appreciation from the audience; where the cities are enchanting, the journey is never the same".
