Spain : The objective of the Government is to develop a digitalization strategy in education that will be one of the levers of the country's economic and social transformation.

The acting Minister of Education and Professional Training, Isabel Cela, has intervened in Santander at the 33rd Meeting of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications, organized by AMETIC with the support of the Menndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).

"We will invest 226 million euros in materializing a comprehensive plan carefully prepared, rigorous, connected with other successful international and national experiences, realistic and well structured," said Cela.

The meeting, which this year is celebrated under the motto 'The moment of digital reindustrialization', addresses the impact of digital transformation on the reindustrialization of Spain, as a fact and an opportunity that affects all public and private sectors.

During her speech, the acting minister stressed the importance of digitalization in education and Vocational Training as "levers of effective economic and social transformation of the education system and its components." Cela has stressed that one of the main axes of action of the Government is the Digital Agenda and an essential element to boost it goes through the digitalization of the education system.

As part of this comprehensive digitalization plan, the connectivity plan of the educational centers will be completed by 2021, which will have ultra-fast broadband and wireless networks in all their classrooms; the digital competence of teachers, students and educational centers will be promoted through a State Framework of Digital Competence and the creation of the School of Artificial Intelligence in the Ministry of Education and FP. In addition, the modification of the architecture and physical organization of the centers will be addressed.

Another of the main actions refers to Vocational Training, whose modernization and digitalization are already underway through different actions such as the incorporation of a professional module on digitalization applied to the corresponding productive sector or the design of 80 new degrees associated with Intelligent Manufacturing, Maintenance Digitalization, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence or Big data, among others.

"To carry out this important education and training program we want to have the highest possible degree of agreement," said Cela. "The digital revolution, the digital economy, will not be possible without the digitization of education. The key to the development of the society of the future is, more than ever, education."
