REDMOND, Wash.--(BW HealthWire)--Jan. 15, 2002

Spacelabs Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq:SLMD) announced today the launch of its newest information integration product, the Intesys(R) Central Workstation (ICW).

The new ICW integrates world-class Ultraview(R) central monitoring capabilities with the information management capabilities of Intesys clinical information systems products, and also performs as a portal to the hospital's information systems and the Internet.

The ICW collects, organizes, accesses, displays and stores information from a multitude of systems and applications. It thus enables nurses and other caregivers to interact with data ranging from vital signs and arrhythmias to laboratory test results and transcriptions, providing the information needed to make informed decisions. The ICW is available as a software-only product or as a turnkey solution.

"This new central clinical workstation offers a unique combination of access and functionality," said Roy Hays, vice president of product development. "The workstation's dual displays offer continuous viewing of current patient vital signs while permitting the user to access patient data from other systems and use other applications. This combination improves workflow and reduces clutter while assuring optimum patient care."

A key feature of the ICW is its 12-hour full-disclosure capability -- sufficient to span a nurse's full shift -- with options for up to 72 hours. Clinicians will also appreciate its interactive full bed review and Express Charting(TM). The Express Charting application will enable nurses to spend less clerical time handwriting vitals on paper charts by automating the collection of vital signs data and integrating information from other data sources, such as ADT and lab, through standard HL7 interfaces.

Other available options include the ability to use full disclosure, electronic flowsheet and other Windows-based programs at a bedside monitor and vital-signs viewing for remote users. "We wanted the new workstation to offer a broad set of functions with excellent connectivity," added Hays. "This connectivity allows access to data from locations such as the bedside, central workstation and physician's office."

The new workstation uses industry-standard technologies to assure compatibility with systems from Spacelabs and other companies. It also prints to Windows 2000-compatible printers and offers remote diagnostics for quick resolution of operational issues that may arise.
